This tutorial will provide the user a step by step guide for upgrading their cable modem's firmware through the Sigma web interface. This tutorial was written with Sigma X2 in mind, users should be able to use this same process on other versions with the exception of Sigma X1RC4.

Required Items:

TFTP Server (TFTPD32 used in this tutorial)

Firmware Image File

Step 1. Before we begin the IP address on our network adapter must be changed so that the modem can download the firmware image without issues.

The settings that must be applied are as follows

IP 192.168.100.10

Subnet 255.255.255.0

Gateway 192.168.100.1

DNS - Any (does not matter)

If you are unaware of the procedure for doing this please refer to the pictures below

Part 2

Step 2. Once your IP settings have been changed, and only after they have you should open TFTPd32 with administrative rights.

Step 3. Once TFTPD32 is open, use the browse option to point it to the directory where your firmware image file resides. In this example the firmware being used is:  SB5100MoD.1.0.4.Beta.bin. Once this is done click show dir, and confirm that the file you wish to upgrade with is on the list and to confirm that the file extension on the file has not been appended by Windows. For example in some cases SB5100MoD.1.0.4.Beta.bin may appear as SB5100MoD.1.0.4.Beta. In this case SB5100MoD.1.0.4.Beta is not correct and the full name must be used in order for the upgrade to be successful.

Step 4. Point your web browser to http://192.168.100.1:1337 for Sigma X2 (http://192.168.100.1 on some modems or http://192.168.100.1:666 in the case of SB5100Mod modems. At the bottom of the screen under Firmware updater place the name of your firmware image file in the file name section in this case it is SB5100MoD.1.0.4.Beta.bin and your IP will be 192.168.100.10.

Step 5. Click download and the modem will update to the new image. A successful result is illustrated below. Once the firmware update is complete wait 1 minute then perform a hard reboot of your modem by unplugging it, then plugging it back in. (NOTE IF USING A SB3100, SB4100, SB4101, OR SB4200 DO NOT HARD REBOOT YOUR MODEM IT WILL REBOOT AUTOMATICALLY WHEN FINISHED IF YOU UNPLUG YOUR MODEM DURING THIS PROCESS IT WILL BE DAMAGED PERMANENTLY)
